Most Vodafone router connection problems come down to one of five things: a loose cable, the router not being fully powered on, a service that hasn't activated yet, a device that needs reconnecting, or a router that needs a power cycle. Work through the fixes below in order and you'll resolve the majority of issues without calling support.

Is your router physically set up correctly?

Start with the cables. On the older VOX25 model, the DSL internet cable plugs into the red internet port on the router, and the other end goes into the telephone socket on the wall. It's a common mistake to use the wrong port, especially if you're setting up for the first time.

The power button on the VOX25 sits at the back of the device, not the front. Press it firmly and wait for the lights to stabilise, which can take two to three minutes.

Has the service actually activated yet?

This catches a lot of people out. As Vodafone's own support page states: "Follow our three steps to get set up - it may take until midnight for your service to start working." If you've just had broadband installed or switched provider, the line may simply not be live yet. Wait until midnight on your activation date before assuming something is wrong.

Have you tried power cycling the router?

Power cycling fixes a surprising number of connectivity problems. Unplug the router from the mains, wait 30 seconds (the recommended duration, according to JustAnswer), then plug it back in. Don't just use the power button. A full unplug clears the router's memory and forces it to re-establish the connection from scratch.

After plugging back in, give the router three to five minutes before testing your connection again.

Is your device actually connecting to the right network?

Check that your phone, laptop or tablet is connecting to your Vodafone network and not a neighbour's router or an old saved network. Go into your device's Wi-Fi settings, find the correct network name (printed on the label underneath your router), and connect using the password shown there. If the network doesn't appear in the list at all, the router may not have finished booting, or the Wi-Fi broadcast may be off.

Which router model do you have?

Vodafone has issued several router models over the years. The VOX25 setup process differs from the Wi-Fi Hub, and the THG3000 has its own expert settings. If you have a THG3000, Eclipse Reviews published a setup guide on YouTube on 29 June 2024 covering the router's configuration options in detail. For the Wi-Fi Hub, Vodafone's own setup video on YouTube has accumulated over 528,000 views and walks through the process step by step.

Still stuck? Contact Vodafone directly

If none of the above works, contact Vodafone support via the My Vodafone app, live chat on the Vodafone website, or by calling 191 from a Vodafone mobile. Have your account number and the router's serial number (on the base label) ready before you call. If there's a local line fault, only Vodafone's technical team can raise it with Openreach on your behalf.

Follow our three steps to get set up, it may take until midnight for your service to start working.

Frequently asked questions

where do I plug the internet cable into my Vodafone VOX25 router
The DSL internet cable plugs into the red internet port on the router, with the other end connecting to the telephone socket on the wall. Using the wrong port is a common setup mistake, so double-check you're using the red port specifically.
how long does it take for Vodafone broadband to start working after setup
Vodafone's service may take until midnight to start working after you've completed the three setup steps. If you've just switched provider or had broadband installed, wait until midnight on your activation date before troubleshooting further.
how do I power cycle my Vodafone router to fix connection problems
Unplug the router from the mains and wait 30 seconds before plugging it back in. This fixes many connectivity issues and is worth trying before contacting support.
where is the power button on a Vodafone VOX25 router
The power button on the VOX25 is located at the back of the device, not the front. Press it firmly and wait two to three minutes for the lights to stabilise.
why is my Vodafone router not showing up on my device list
Try power cycling the router by unplugging it for 30 seconds, then plugging it back in. If the router still isn't showing and has no internet connection, check that all cables are firmly connected and your service has activated (which can take until midnight).
